5 fantastic cancer podcasts you need to listen to

One of the questions we’re often asked is how to pass the time when going through cancer treatment, or while resting and recovering from chemotherapy.

If you’re bored of listening to music, too tired to read another book, or have exhausted your movie collection, podcasts are a great free entertainment source. 

In fact, there are lots of good podcasts out there that tackle the informative, honest and even humorous sides of fighting cancer. Here are five well-known favorites for you to choose from during your recovery:

 

 

Frankly Speaking About Cancer

Designed to guide you through the cancer maze, this weekly podcast is presented by Kim 

Thiboldeaux, President of the Cancer Support Community.

Each episode Kim gathers together experts - including researchers, physicians, social workers, and nurses - to tackle a different cancer-related topic, along with sharing real-life anecdotes from cancer sufferers and their families.

Stupid Cancer

This award-winning podcast has been going for more than 10 years, and is specifically targeted at 

helping young adults going through cancer.

No subject is too taboo for this hard-hitting series, which tackles everything from the medical side of cancer to the disease’s impact on legislation, healthcare policy, and civil liberties.

Jesse vs Cancer

When stand-up comedian Jesse Case was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, he decided to document his experiences in a podcast.

If you’re looking for a series that discusses everything else that life throws at you as well as cancer, this is a great choice. Jesse combines his latest cancer updates with his opinions on everything from sexism to sexy monsters!

REACH Beyond Cancer

REACH stands for Research in Exercise And Cancer Health, and this podcast covers everything to do with nutrition and wellbeing during your cancer battle, including stories from real-life cancer survivors.

Topics recently discussed in this series include the impact of red meat on cancer rates, suitable exercise programs to undertake during cancer treatment, and how to fight cancer-related fatigue.

Ted Radio Hour: Fighting Cancer

Ted is a non-profit media organization dedicated to spreading ideas and inspiration on just about every topic you can think of. This one-hour podcast from Ted’s Radio Hour – an extension of its infamous Ted Talks – on fighting cancer is well worth listening to, even though it’s now a couple of years old.

Among the show’s five expert speakers is best-selling physician Dean Ornish who discusses healthy eating for cancer, and minister Debra Jarvis sharing what it means to her to be a cancer survivor. It’s a great way to hear several different perspectives on cancer in a short space of time.
